PE appointed to conduct Study on Achievements on HRD in Industrial Sector
JICA Malaysia Office has commissioned the PE Team to conduct a study to determine the contributions by Japanese technical cooperation in the field                 of human resource development in the industrial sector.
 
PE completes Asset Study on JICA's Cooperation to Malaysia
The PE Team led by Lim Pao Li recently completed an asset study on JICA's Cooperation to Malaysia for JICA Malaysia Office. The study reported on the             assets that have been built by the technical assistance in the various sectors, and recommended areas for future technical cooperation.

Workshop on Economic Assessment of Environmental Impact
PE Research conducted a workshop on the Economic Assessment of Environmental Impact on 4 - 5 November 2009. This workshop was facilitated by Dr. Benoit Laplante who helped design the Guidelines for Economic Assessment of Environmental Impact for the Department of Environment.

Lim Pao Li and Chang Yii Tan Appointed as UNDP consultants in October 2009 to review Malaysia's South-South program.

PE completes Study on Incentives for Timber Industries in Malaysia
The PE Team recently completed a study on the existing incentives for the timber and wood-working industries in Malaysia for the Malaysian Timber Council. The guidebook which was produced as a result of the study contains relevant information in terms of incentive providers, qualifying criteria, form of assistance, eligible assistance, application procedure and the contacts of relevant Government ministries and agencies involved.

PE appointed to conduct Baseline Survey on Awareness of Intellectual Property Rights in Malaysia
JICA Malaysia has appointed PE Research to conduct a baseline survey to determine the awareness of consumers on intellectual property rights as fundamentals for market economy. The Malaysian Counterpart Agency for this project is the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) under the Ministry of Domestic and Consumer Affairs. The findings of this survey will be presented at a planning and management seminar in late August 2007 and will be used as benchmark indicators for the capacity development in the intellectual property rights' administration of the Intellectual Property Corporation under the Malaysia-Japanese Technical Cooperation Project .

PE appointed to conduct TNA of SMEs in Distributive Trade
The Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (Human Resource Development Berhad) has appointed PE Research to conduct a study to identify the training needs of SMEs in the Distributive Trade sector and to make recommendations to address their current and future training needs. The findings from this study will identify the core competencies as well as the competency gaps of SMEs in the sector to formulate training strategies for this sector.

PE combines with SERI to establish SWM model in Penang
The UNDP has appointed the PE and SERI combined team to establish a structured and institutional SWM model in Penang which can be replicated by other states in Malaysia . The study entails identifying alternatives to mass collection and disposal as well as to capacity building and knowledge management on the processes of creating and establishing an integrated sustainable waste management model based on the Penang experience.

PE completes Impact Assessment of Proposed East Coast Expressway Phase 2

The PE Team led by Chang Yii Tan has completed a Social and Economic Impact Assessment of the Proposed East Coast Expressway Phase 2 for the Terengganu State Economic Planning Unit. The study entailed identifying the social and economic impact on the communities in Terengganu affected by the highway during the construction and operation phases. The study also looked into the economic impact of the highway in terms of business, entrepreneurial and employment opportunities; the spill-over effects during construction and operation phases; the impact on the standard of living of communities with a direct link to the highway particularly those that are direct affected by the highway; the social impact on communities in the vicinity of the highway; the overall impact on the development of regional growth centres, towns and villages, particularly those distant from the highway alignment; and other impacts arising from the construction and operation of the highway.

PE appointed to implement the MPSJ Pilot Project on Establishment of Local Recycling Network and Source Separation of Municipal Solid Waste

PE Research has been appointed to implement the pilot project as part of the Study on National Waste Minimisation in Malaysia carried out by the JICA Study Team. The objectives of the study are to establish a sustainable recycling system/network in Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ), and to improve the capacity of MPSJ officials to manage/monitor recycling activities and to increase the collection amount of recyclable materials at source.

MTC commissions PE to Establish a Framework for Forest Plantation in Malaysia

The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) has commissioned PE Research to look into the establishment of a framework for the formation of a “NEWCO” for forest plantation development in Malaysia. This study was to formulate a strategy for sustainable production of tropical timber to circumvent existing market failures in its investment. The strategy called for an innovative funding mechanism, among many, to ensure that Malaysia's timber industry would continue to sustain and perform in the future. The “NEWCO” framework entailed a review in its legal and institutional dimensions, analyses and recommendation on the investment, financial and budgetary elements, a discussion in the areas of policy and a detailed plan of action.
